Your guide to buying and selling on Ebay

Archive for January, 2008

When you sell products on eBay, and if you have to collect shipping charges from the buyer, it is important that you state all these charges in the beginning of the transaction.

The greatest benefit of stating all your charges and fees at the start is that you get a positive feedback.

You can also improve your feedback with constant communication with the buyers as this gives them comfort and peace of mind. When sending your invoice to the buyer, you could make it personal with a note.

On shipping out the merchandise, send a confirmation message to the buyer, even if you don’t have any tracking number to provide.

In addition to all this, you have to send a follow up message to the buyer to ensure that the item had reached them and to ensure that they were happy with the product.

It is possible that you receive numerous emails from eBay about new items placed for auctions and other messages. However it is advisable only to open messages that reach ‘My Messages’.

This is because though you may be lucky and not end up in any problems at the start, pretty soon, you find that by opening these emails, someone will be able to take over your account. To check if an email is real, you could forward the email to spoof@ebay.com, just to be on the safer side.

The spelling of your titles should also be correct. If you put a wrong letter or forget letters, it is likely that your item will lose its searchability.

It is taking this advantage to mind that ebuyers search for products with wrongly spelled words so that they get a better deal. So always check your spellings before listing.

Like most transaction houses, eBay has its own listing fee structure table, which should be studied before you actually consider listing an item in eBay.

This is because with the wrong listings made about your product on eBay, the more confusion you create.

It is not advisable to list items for a dollar as this tends to increase your listing fee from .20 to .40. The same principle is adapted when making listings for items worth $25.

By listing the cost of your product at $24.99, you get a reduced insertion fee of .60 instead of $1.20.

It can be said that your reserve price is dependant on the fee your listing is based on; so bear this in mind when making a listing on eBay.
